Herceg Novi Activities & Tours

Most of what you can do in Herceg Novi involves boats. The town sits on the mouth of the bay, which means the best coast, the best water, and most of the dramatic scenery lie on the other side, a short ride away. The standard Lustica peninsula boat tour covers four stops: Žanjic beach for a swim, the Blue Grotto sea cave for a plunge from the boat, Mamula island (now a hotel. You pass but don't land), and the Arza submarine tunnels carved into the cliffs by the Yugoslav navy. Operators running half-day speedboat circuits sit at the marina beside the bigger tour boats, typically €35 to €60 per seat for a faster, splashier version of the same loop. A group seat on a half-day trip is €25 to €45. A private water taxi from the marina, up to six people, runs €50 to €120 depending on length, and lets you skip the schedule and choose swim stops.

Diving is legitimately good here. The sheltered water keeps conditions predictable from April through October, visibility runs 10 to 15 metres in the open sections, and there are wreck dives and reef dives within 30 minutes of the marina. A single guided dive costs around €40 to €60 including gear; open-water certification courses run €350 to €450 across four days. A handful of kayak and paddleboard rental outfits work the Škver and Igalo seafronts at €10 to €20 per hour. Kayaking around into the town's rocky coast below the Old Town is a quiet two-hour circuit.

On land, the Institute Dr Simo Milošević in Igalo is the wellness anchor. Therapeutic mud, mineral baths, underwater massage, and medical rehabilitation courses that draw an older European crowd for week-long programmes. Day treatments (€40 to €80) are open to walk-ins with advance booking.

For day trips by road: Kotor and Perast are 30 to 45 minutes around the bay. Lovćen National Park, Montenegro's symbolic heart, with the Njegoš mausoleum at 1,660 metres, is about 90 minutes. Njeguši village on the way up is the place to stop for pršut, cheese and honey tastings. Across the border, Dubrovnik is 40 minutes by car; border waits are 15 to 45 minutes outside August and can reach two hours at peak times.
