Herceg Novi Accommodation

Where you stay in Herceg Novi changes the trip more than it does in most towns, because the districts have genuinely different characters. The Old Town (Stari Grad) is the historic centre. A knot of stone alleys above the harbour, reached by steep stairways from the coast road. A handful of boutique hotels and family guest houses occupy restored buildings inside or just above the walls. You get the atmosphere, the terrace views, the café life. You also get the stairs. Carrying luggage up four flights of stone steps is the price of entry, and a car can't usually get within 200 metres of the front door.

Topla runs east of the Old Town along the seafront. It's mostly apartments and small private hotels, often family-run, with direct seafront access and short walks into town. Prices are lower than the Old Town and parking is easier. Igalo, three kilometres west, is the spa district. Larger hotels cluster around the promenade and the Institute, and the neighbourhood suits visitors here for wellness treatments or with young families who want the long beach walks.

Further out, Meljine, Zelenika, Savina, Kumbor, Đenovići, Baošići, the pace slows, the rates drop, and getting into town means a short drive or the regular coastal bus.

Booking two to three months ahead is enough for peak-season July and August. May, June, September and October keep the weather and cost the best available rates. A lot of the smaller guest houses and apartments close entirely between November and March. In low season, stick to the larger year-round hotels.
