Herceg Novi Shopping

Herceg Novi isn't a shopping destination in the way a capital is, but it has a small and genuinely local retail scene that rewards anyone who's looking for something specific rather than wandering a mall. The Old Town handles the craft side. Along the lanes between the main gate and Belavista square a cluster of small shops sells hand-painted icons (some commissioned from the Savina Monastery workshops), mimosa soaps, locally pressed olive oil, small-batch rakija and loza, and ceramic pieces. The quality varies and prices are not cheap, but the provenance is real. Most of the shopkeepers are the makers or direct distributors. This is where to look for genuine gifts from the region.

Njegoševa, the main street parallel to the seafront, handles the practical side. Pharmacies, opticians, clothing chains, a few bookshops, bakeries, electronics, phone shops, and the biggest supermarket in town. This is where locals actually do their weekly shopping and where you go for anything useful you've forgotten to pack. Igalo has its own short strip along the promenade. Mostly seasonal beachwear, pharmacies, small souvenir shops and cafés.

Through summer, a handful of open-air markets appear on the coast: produce from inland villages, cheese from the Lovćen mountain villages, olive oil and honey. Njeguški pršut (the regional smoked ham) and cheese from the mountain above Kotor are widely sold and vacuum-pack well for travel.

Card payments are standard in fixed shops; market stalls and some Old Town workshops prefer cash in euros. ATMs are easy to find on Njegoševa and at the marina. Summer opening hours are typically 09:00 to 20:00, often with a midday break at family-run spots. In winter, expect shorter hours and a number of seasonal closures.
