The current building was completed in 1856 on older foundations that trace back to the late Venetian period, replacing earlier Catholic chapels damaged during the transitions between Venetian, French and Austro-Hungarian rule. The architecture is a restrained mid-19th-century Adriatic Catholic style. Single-nave plan, squared stone facing, a small rose window above the main entrance, and a bell tower rising about 20 metres on the west end. Inside, the altar is flanked by religious paintings attributed to regional artists of the Dalmatian school, and several carved stone elements from earlier Venetian-period chapels were reused in the interior fabric.

Mass is celebrated on Sundays and feast days in Croatian and occasionally in Italian, reflecting the historical connections of the local Catholic community with the northern Adriatic coast. The feast of St Jerome on 30 September draws the largest parish gathering of the year. The church sits a short walk from Belavista square, reached through the narrow stone lanes near the seaward walls of the Old Town. Outside service times the church is usually open for visits. Shorts and bare shoulders are not acceptable inside. The quiet back lanes around the church are among the Old Town's more overlooked corners and repay a slow walk.
