The Church of Saint Leopold Mandić stands in the old quarter of Herceg Novi, built in 1688 on the order of Jeronimo Corner shortly after the Venetian conquest…The Church of Saint Leopold Mandić stands in the old quarter of Herceg Novi, built in 1688 on the order of Jeronimo Corner shortly after the Venetian conquest, where a mosque had previously stood. It was first dedicated to the Virgin Mary and later to St Francis, and was served by Capuchin friars who also ran a school and tended a military hospital next door.

The simple single-nave, rectangular form follows the plain Capuchin building tradition. The church took its present name in 1976, when Leopold Mandić, born here in 1866, was beatified by the Pope.
